Came here for the first time last night. When we walked-in, the place was a lot smaller inside than we expected. So it gets packed real quick, make sure to have a 2nd option ready if you do decide to come here. We took the last seating available which was a shared long table by the door. We ordered a bento box with chicken and beef teriyaki and 3 skewers. The bento box came out and the Teriyaki beef was the best I’ve ever tasted! Nice thick slices of beef. 5⭐️ for the teriyaki beef! Everything going fine so far. Then… I realized the skewers were taking unusually long, so I followed up with the server. As expected, they were never put in. When we finally got them, you can tell they were rushed and tasted as if not fully cooked. Very disappointed in the skewers. I do recommend this place for small parties (1-2 people). Do not recommend for large parties. Overall 3 ⭐️
First time in and we really wanted to like it as it is close to us and the reviews were good but outside of our server and her super bubbly personality, the food was all meh at best. We got edamame which was cooked right but had simple table salt on it, we ordered a salmon roll and a tempura shrimp roll and the salmon roll was mush in the center and the shrimp was separate on top of a small roll and had absolutely zero flavor. The batter was good but the shrimp were old and from frozen and when we bit into one they actually squirted water out of the center. We eat out a lot and love to support small business but have to skip this one next time out for sushi.
I ate here a few days ago with my family and enjoyed the experience. I ordered the Crunch Shrimp Roll and Chicken Gyozas and found them both delicious. We also split a big bowl of Shrimp Fried Rice, and had Green Tea ice cream for dessert. The atmosphere is very intimate and cozy and the food was brought out in quick fashion.
I I am a 70-year-old lady who were really right views, but I felt compelled to share my experience so others would be aware. The food presentation was extremely poor for below. Anyone would expect from a restaurant when I politely raised my voice and concerns to the owner who responded in a shock, unprofessional manner, even threaten to call the police on me for simply voicing my dissatisfaction. This was the most unpleasant dining experience I’ve ever had and I would strongly advise others to think twice before try this restaurant. In the future, he could think about telling his tone to be more formal, calmer and a different approach.
Stopped by this Japanese restaurant in lake forest on a Friday night with family. We sat down promptly and the service was fast. Tried an assortment of sushi and hand rolls edamame cucumber salad and their spicy beef bowl. All gray and fresh although the the spicy beef bowl wasn’t spicy and was more sweet than anything else. Overall a solid 4.
If you’re too busy to go to Japan, don’t worry. This place is where you want to go for quick Japanese beer, sake and food. Real authentic yakitori to “Uni Sushi” @ very very reasonable price, and you will forget where you’re. Friendly staff and plenty of parking spaces. One thing to remember, please hire a babysitter before you and your significant other come to this place and sit at the bar side. After all, this is an Izakaya (Japanese bar). Enjoy!
Update. I tried it few more times food is much better. Thought to be fair I update my review ********** Food was horrible. Only beer is good and the people. Meat and fish sucked. I mean on another level. I live 2 minutes away but will never go Even orange and salad were bad. Took the meat for my dog. Hope she doesn't get sick
Let me give any restaurant owner advice. The condition of the restrooms represents the conditions of the kitchen, the cooks and the staff. Service was good. Food had a nice presentation. Some of the yakitori was cold in the center, but I gobbled it down because each piece is $$$, but a little worried how my stomach will react later. I had a bit of msg headache too. Think this place has potential but needs to work on things I have just stated. Good luck!
